Ring announces first smart lock with manual power dial
Ring has announced its first smart lock, featuring a unique manual power dial designed to prevent lockouts caused by dead batteries. If the battery is depleted, users can turn the knurled dial to manually generate enough electricity to power the backlit touchscreen keypad, allowing for PIN entry.
The device supports multiple unlocking methods, including fingerprint recognition, PIN codes, the Ring app, and Alexa voice control. It is designed to work with standard single-cylinder deadbolts and utilizes a rechargeable Quick Release Ultra Battery Pack, which can be removed and recharged at home.
Connectivity for remote functions relies on Amazon Sidewalk rather than standard home Wi-Fi. The lock is expected to launch in the United States in early 2027, pending regulatory authorization. It will be available in black, silver, and brass finishes and can integrate with other Ring security products, such as video doorbells and alarm systems.
