Ring expands AI pet-finding doorbell feature to Europe

Ring is expanding its AI-powered ‘Search Party for Dogs’ feature to Europe. The technology uses smart doorbell cameras to help owners locate missing pets by matching uploaded photos with footage from neighboring cameras.

Since its introduction in the United States last October, the service has reportedly helped return more than one missing dog per day on average. The charity Dogs Trust has expressed support for the initiative, noting the high number of stray animals in municipal care.

However, the technology has faced criticism from those who label the use of interconnected surveillance networks as ‘dystopian’ and a form of mass surveillance.
