Ring to launch Neighbours community app in the UK
Amazon’s Ring division will launch its Neighbours community application in the United Kingdom on 21 October. The service is designed to act as a digital community noticeboard, allowing residents to share information regarding local safety, community matters, and lost pets.
Users can access the app for free through the existing Ring application without needing to own Ring camera hardware. Participants define their community by setting a residential address and selecting a radius between 0.1 and five miles. To maintain order, posts will be moderated using a combination of artificial intelligence and human review to prevent illegal content, discriminatory language, or unfounded speculation.
While some features from the US version will not be available at launch, Ring is developing tools for the UK market. These include ‘Neighbours Verified,’ which allows official bodies like emergency services to distribute advisory notices, and ‘Community Requests,’ which enables police to request camera footage from residents on an opt-in basis. The app will also include a ‘Search Party for Dogs’ feature to coordinate searches for lost pets.
