Rinku Singh's Test selection questioned by Aakash Chopra
Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra has criticized national selectors for overlooking Rinku Singh, questioning why the batter is being excluded from India’s red-ball and white-ball squads despite exceptional domestic performances.
Singh, playing for Uttar Pradesh in the Ranji Trophy, has maintained a prolific scoring run, including recent centuries against Goa, Punjab, and Tamil Nadu. His first-class record includes 3,869 runs in 54 matches at an average exceeding 59. Chopra noted that Singh has been “branded” as a white-ball specialist, which may be limiting his opportunities in both formats.
Despite being part of India’s 2026 T20 World Cup winning squad, Singh has not been included in the upcoming series in New Zealand or the India-A squad. Chopra argued that Singh’s high first-class average warrants consideration for the Test team and suggested the player has been “treated wrongly” since the World Cup.
