Rino Gaetano: New documentary explores the singer's life and legacy

A new documentary titled ‘Rino Gaetano – Sempre più blu’, directed by Giorgio Verdelli and aired on Rai 3, explores the life and musical legacy of the original Italian singer-songwriter Rino Gaetano. The film utilizes archival footage, notebooks, and testimonies from family members and contemporaries to trace his journey from a young artist to a national icon.

The documentary highlights Gaetano’s connection to his hometown of Crotone, specifically recalling his only concert in the city, which took place at the Ezio Scida Stadium on August 23, 1978.

Reflecting on Gaetano’s early years, singer-songwriter Antonello Venditti shared memories of their meeting in 1970 at Rome’s Folkstudio. Venditti described the era when he worked as a taxi driver, often transporting fellow musicians such as Francesco De Gregori, Giorgio Lo Cascio, and Ernesto Bassignano, noting that Gaetano was one of the last musicians he would drive home during that formative period of Italian music history.
