Rio Asumi to star in ‘9 to 5’ musical revival in 2027

The musical ‘9 to 5’, based on the hit film and featuring the music of Dolly Parton, has been scheduled for a revival in Japan from February 23 to March 10, 2027. The production will be held at the Japan Youth Hall, with additional performances planned for Osaka and Aichi.

Rio Asumi will reprise her lead role as Violet, a single mother navigating the challenges of work and family life. Returning cast members include Aya Hirano as Doralee, Megumi Iino as Roz, and Tetsuya Bessho as Franklin. New additions to the cast are Michiru Aya as Judy and Kento Yamada as Joe.

The musical follows a group of female employees who unite to take action against their tyrannical boss. Following the success of the 2024 production, the upcoming revival aims to bring a fresh energy to the story through new cast members and direction by Kazuhiko Ueda.
