Rio Bonito do Iguaçu authorities investigated over tornado relief donations

Authorities in Rio Bonito do Iguaçu, Paraná, executed search and seizure warrants on Wednesday, September 2, 2026, as part of an investigation into the potential misappropriation of tornado relief donations. The Civil Police of Paraná (PCPR) and the Public Ministry of Paraná (MPPR) targeted the Municipal Secretariat of Social Assistance and the Centro de Eventos warehouse, both of which were used to store food and supplies intended for families affected by a recent tornado.

The investigation is examining possible embezzlement (peculato) regarding the distribution of collected goods. During the operation, officials seized documents and electronic equipment, including notebooks, to assist in the technical analysis of the case. No suspects or specific amounts of diverted goods have been named at this stage.

The municipal administration expressed surprise at the measures, stating they have consistently cooperated with authorities and maintained that all donations were distributed correctly to those in need. The municipality reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and promised to clarify any discrepancies during the ongoing investigation.
