Rio Branco City Council sessions repeatedly adjourned due to lack of quorum

The Rio Branco City Council in Acre, Brazil, has faced repeated disruptions as legislative sessions are being adjourned due to a lack of quorum. President Joabe Lira reported that sessions have failed to commence because the minimum required number of council members—at least 11—was not met.

On Wednesday, October 28, the session could not begin after the mandatory 15-minute grace period expired without sufficient attendance. This follows similar incidents, including a session on October 22 where only eight council members were present. These absences have hindered the legislative agenda, affecting the discussion of projects and public activities.

The recurring issue comes amid political maneuvering for the selection of the next Board of Directors for the 2027-2028 biennium.
