Rio Branco man dies after jumping into shallow stream

A man identified as Ananias died on Thursday afternoon after jumping into a shallow section of the Igarapé Judia in the Cidade do Povo region of Rio Branco, Acre.

Witnesses reported that Ananias had traveled from a rural property with a friend to bathe and consume alcoholic beverages. While at the stream, he jumped from a bank and struck a shallow area, resulting in a suspected severe neck injury. After the impact, he failed to resurface.

A friend entered the water and managed to pull Ananias to the shore. Although emergency medical services (SAMU) arrived and attempted resuscitation efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Military Police isolated the area for forensic examination, and the body was sent to the Medical Legal Institute (IML). The Civil Police are expected to investigate the circumstances of the incident.
