Rio Branco school security guard shoots theft suspect

Raimundo de Lima Batista, 26, was shot during an alleged attempt to steal electrical wiring from the Paulo Freire School in Rio Branco on Sunday morning. The incident occurred at the school's sports court in the Belo Jardim 2 neighborhood.

A security guard on duty reported that she observed Batista using cutting pliers on the wiring. When she ordered him to leave, the suspect allegedly advanced toward her in an attempt to seize her firearm. In response, the guard fired a shot that struck Batista in the back.

Batista was treated by SAMU and transported to the Rio Branco Emergency Care Unit. While his condition is considered stable, medical reports indicate a loss of movement in his legs, raising concerns about potential paraplegia.

Local police seized the weapon used in the incident. The security guard provided a statement to the authorities and was subsequently released. Representatives from the company responsible for public school security have arrived to provide assistance to the professional involved.
