Rio Carnival: Changes in samba school leadership roles

Changes are occurring within the leadership of major Rio de Janeiro samba schools ahead of the 2027 Carnival. Influencer Virginia Fonseca announced her departure from the role of 'rainha de bateria' at Grande Rio, citing the exhaustion and intensity of the position which no longer fits her personal and business routine. Following her announcement, fans have taken to social media to call for actress Paolla Oliveira to reclaim the title.

Separately, the samba school Unidos da Tijuca has denied rumors claiming they were demanding R$ 1 million to appoint a new 'rainha de bateria' to replace Mileide Mihaile. The school's press office stated that no name has been defined and no negotiations regarding values are currently taking place. Unidos da Tijuca has also announced that its 2027 theme will be based on the book ‘A Cabeça do Santo’ by Socorro Accioli.
