Brazil municipalities intensify combat against dengue and hantavirus
Various Brazilian municipalities are implementing diverse public health measures to combat mosquito-borne diseases and viral outbreaks. In Balneário Camboriú, dengue cases have dropped by 99.8% compared to 2024, a reduction attributed to the Wolbachia method, new insecticides, and increased agent training.
In other regions, active combat continues. Rio Claro is conducting neighborhood inspections following 26 confirmed dengue cases, while Campo Grande is deploying ultra-low volume spraying (Fumacê) in the Popular and Panamá neighborhoods. In Valadares, a recent survey indicated a 5.2% infestation rate of Aedes aegypti, placing the city in a high-risk category for epidemics.
Additionally, the city of Itajaí has intensified rodent control and sanitation guidance following the first confirmed case of hantavirus in 19 years, which resulted in a fatality. Health authorities are advising residents to avoid sweeping dust in potentially contaminated areas and to manage waste to prevent rodent attraction.
