Rio de Janeiro adopts new state policies on digital influencers and healthy eating

The Rio de Janeiro state legislature approved Law 11.285/26, creating a State Policy for the Training and Incentive of Digital Influencers. The measure, signed by the state executive and published on 16 July 2026, aims to recognize and support content creators who use social media for media‑literacy education, scientific dissemination, human‑rights promotion and inclusive communication, including creators with disabilities such as Down syndrome and autism. It provides for workshops, awareness campaigns and awards to encourage responsible digital content.

In parallel, a separate bill is advancing in the Assembly to establish a State Policy for the Promotion of Healthy Eating. Sponsored by Deputy Arthur Monteiro (Solidariedade), the proposal calls for educational campaigns, nutrition guidance in schools and families, and the reduction of ultra‑processed foods and added sugars. It seeks to prevent chronic diseases such as obesity and diabetes by encouraging consumption of unprocessed or minimally processed foods and aligning state practices with international scientific guidelines. The draft is currently under committee review before a plenary vote.
