Rio de Janeiro advances innovation and sustainability through UFRJ and EcoFábrica Omìayê

The Federal University of Rio de Janeiro (UFRJ) has reinaugurated Inova UFRJ at the HUB+ Park. The initiative aims to accelerate social transformation by managing academic research protection, technology licensing, and fostering partnerships between the university and private companies to turn scientific knowledge into tangible products and services.

In a separate regional development, the EcoFábrica Omìayê in Mangueira, Rio de Janeiro, marks one year of operation. Developed by the Instituto Singular Ideias Inovadoras, this social technology converts used cooking oil into bioremediation microorganisms and soap. In its first year, the project collected nearly 8,000 liters of oil, preventing the pollution of approximately 198 million liters of water and producing materials capable of treating millions of liters of sewage.
