Rio de Janeiro electoral court moves 66 voting sites to prevent crime influence

The Regional Electoral Court of Rio de Janeiro (TRE-RJ) has changed 66 voting locations for the upcoming October elections to mitigate the influence of organized crime and militias. This decision, led by Judge Claudio de Mello Tavares, affects 188,000 voters across 20 municipalities. The changes follow a report from a unified task force aimed at removing high-risk areas from the electoral process to ensure voter freedom.

In related administrative developments, the TRE-RJ has begun summoning approximately 150,000 poll workers via WhatsApp. These workers are being instructed to access the electronic system to confirm their participation and receive training details.

Meanwhile, the Rio de Janeiro municipal government is implementing several social and economic initiatives. The city has launched the ‘Nave Empreendedora’, a territorial hub in partnership with Sebrae Rio designed to support local entrepreneurship, digital inclusion, and business formalization in territories like Penha and Engenhão. Additionally, the Municipal Secretariat of Labor and Income is offering 961 job openings this week, including 199 positions specifically designated for people with disabilities.
