Rio de Janeiro and Aracaju fire incidents prompt emergency response

A fire broke out in a four‑storey residential building in the Manguinhos complex of Rio de Janeiro on 9 June. The blaze started on the fourth floor, was contained by the fire department and caused no fatalities. Five apartments were damaged, affecting 18 residents. Municipal agencies – health, social assistance, housing, civil defence and the city‑owned water company – provided immediate assistance, including mattresses, purchase vouchers and inclusion in a temporary housing aid programme.

In Aracaju, a separate fire erupted in the Industrial neighbourhood on the night of 8 June after a vehicle in a garage ignited, spreading to a second car, a ground‑floor commercial unit and part of an upper‑level residence. Six occupants received pre‑hospital care for smoke inhalation and minor burns; all were reported stable. Firefighters used a thermal camera to check for hot spots and prevented the fire from reaching adjacent houses.

Both incidents illustrate coordinated municipal emergency actions to protect residents and provide short‑term relief after residential fires.
