The municipal governments of Rio de Janeiro and Duque de Caxias have inaugurated the 'Muralha Digital Rio-Baixada' on the Linha Vermelha highway. This security initiative, driven by CIVITAS Rio and Smart Duque, utilizes intelligent automated license plate recognition (ALPR) technology to enhance public safety through data and intelligence.

Located near Parque das Missões, the new structure monitors vehicles in both directions toward the city center and the BR-040. The system allows authorities to identify suspicious vehicles, reconstruct routes, and detect movement patterns, providing critical evidence for Civil Police investigations. This integration aims to prevent monitoring gaps when vehicles cross municipal boundaries.

This installation is the third of its kind in Rio de Janeiro. The city plans to expand this digital perimeter significantly, with a goal of installing 16 portals by the end of 2024 and reaching a total of 56 portals by 2028. Future installations are planned for strategic locations, including the Rio-Niterói Bridge.
