Rio de Janeiro and Maricá roll out free community training programs

The non‑governmental organization Favela Mundo launched its "A Arte Gerando Renda" project in Rio de Janeiro, opening 400 free slots for ten‑week courses in aesthetics, carnival arts and performing arts. The courses, aimed chiefly at women, run from mid‑June to early July in the Caju and Água Santa neighborhoods and include training such as nail extension, makeup, costume making and choreography. Participants who attend at least 70% of classes receive a certificate.

In the neighboring municipality of Maricá, the municipal social assistance center (CRAS) in Inoã began accepting registrations for a series of free workshops. The program, coordinated by the city’s Secretariat of Social Assistance, offers activities for children, adolescents, adults and seniors, including auriculotherapy, functional training, gardening, food waste reuse, dance, storytelling and specialized sessions for children with autism. Eligibility requires registration in the national social registry or proof of low income. Both initiatives aim to strengthen community ties, improve employability and promote social inclusion.
