Rio de Janeiro approves animal-friendly condominium seal
The Legislative Assembly of the State of Rio de Janeiro (ALERJ) has approved Bill 3.426/24, which establishes the ‘Condomínio Amigo dos Animais’ (Animal-Friendly Condominium) seal. This certification is designed to promote peaceful coexistence between pet owners and residents by encouraging the implementation of welfare and protection measures.
To receive the seal, residential complexes must include animal welfare and protection measures in their internal regulations. Additionally, buildings must provide designated common areas for pet recreation, such as safe, signaled parks, plazas, or gardens. Certified condominiums are permitted to use the seal in advertising and informative materials.
The initiative follows data indicating that pet-related issues, such as noise from barking and cleanliness in common areas, are significant sources of conflict in Brazilian residential buildings.
