Detran RJ shuts down four irregular scrap yards in Sulacap
As part of ‘Operação Desmonte’, Detran RJ authorities intervened in the Sulacap region of Rio de Janeiro to shut down four irregular scrap yards on Estrada do Catonho. During the operation, agents discovered a part from a Chevrolet Tracker that had been stolen in Taquara in February.
One of the targeted establishments, described as one of the largest in the capital, lacked Detran RJ registration and was operating across three interconnected properties. Inspectors found various automotive parts, including engines and bumpers, without required identification labels. Additionally, agents from the State Environmental Institute (Inea) identified potential environmental risks due to motor oil leaks on the ground.
The owner of the largest site was taken to the 34th DP (Bangu) on suspicion of receiving stolen goods. This specific location had previously been closed by authorities in 2024, but the owner had resumed scrap metal sales. Other businesses were closed for lacking operating licenses or failing to label parts according to legislation.
