Rio de Janeiro authorities shut down illegal kennel

Police and animal protection commissions in Rio de Janeiro conducted an operation in Bangu to shut down an illegal kennel. The raid resulted in the arrest of the owner on charges of animal cruelty.

Authorities rescued approximately 20 Pomeranian dogs that showed signs of extreme hunger, neglect, and starvation. The facility operated without a license or proper vaccination records. The rescued animals have been sent for veterinary care and placed in temporary homes for rehabilitation.

In a separate effort to support animal welfare, the Court of Justice of Rio de Janeiro (TJRJ) has launched a campaign to benefit the Sociedade União Internacional Protetora dos Animais (Suipa). The initiative, running from November 3 to December 11, includes donation drives for food and medical supplies, as well as a scheduled adoption event in December.
