Rio de Janeiro Bar and Public Defender Launch Legal Residency Program with 100 Paid Positions

The Rio de Janeiro section of the Brazilian Bar Association (OAB‑RJ) and the State Public Defender’s Office signed two technical cooperation agreements to expand legal training and services. The first agreement creates a Legal Residency program offering 100 initial positions for lawyers across the state, each receiving a stipend of R$2,800, a four‑day work week and free postgraduate studies. The institutions plan to increase the slots to 500, providing a remunerated career path for local attorneys.

The second agreement concerns the construction of a new OAB‑RJ headquarters in Barra da Tijuca, to be shared with the Public Defender’s Office in a joint institutional complex near the Ministry of Public Prosecution and the Regional Forum. The project, already underway, aims to improve access to judicial services for the community.
