Rio de Janeiro Carnaval 2027 schools announce new samba‑enredo themes

The União da Ilha do Governador samba school announced that for Carnival 2027 it will commission a new samba‑enredo titled “Um Amor de Carnaval – Getúlio Marinho.” The piece will be written by a team of composers including Gustavo Clarão, Luiz Antonio Simas, Cláudio Russo and others, marking a strategic shift to a commissioned musical work.

Separately, the Independente da Praça da Bandeira school revealed its 2027 parade theme “Os Préstitos Engalanados e a Batalha das Ornamentações,” a tribute to carnival pioneer Fernando Pamplona. The enredo was developed by carnavalescos Éder Tadeu and Ricardo Paulino and draws on academic works about Rio’s carnival history.
