Rio de Janeiro City Opens Foster Family Service Registrations

The Rio de Janeiro municipal government announced that registrations are open for its Serviço de Família Acolhedora, a program that matches families with children and adolescents removed from abusive or neglectful homes. Interested families must reside in the city, be aged 21 to 68, and pass a psychosocial evaluation. Applications can be submitted online at https://linktr.ee/FACOrj or in person at local social assistance centers.

The city will provide a monthly stipend of R$1,400 per child, increasing to R$2,030 for children with disabilities or special needs. The initiative aims to raise the proportion of children placed in foster homes, which currently stands at 19% of those in protective care.
