Rio de Janeiro closes Tim Maia cycle path due to sea swell

The Rio de Janeiro municipal government has closed the Tim Maia cycle path between São Conrado beach and the Vidigal metal walkway due to a sea swell warning issued by the Brazilian Navy. Waves are expected to reach heights of up to 2.5 meters through Monday afternoon.

The closure is a preventive measure because the path's structure is located close to the sea level. While the cycle path is closed, traffic on the parallel Avenida Niemeyer remains unaffected.

The Brazilian Navy has advised the public to avoid swimming, water sports, and staying near coastal viewpoints or cliffs during the swell. Fishermen are also urged to avoid navigating while conditions are active.

Weather forecasts from the Alerta Rio system indicate unstable conditions in the capital, with overcast skies and light to moderate isolated rain. Winds may reach 51 km/h, with temperatures ranging between 12°C and 20°C. These cloudy and rainy conditions are expected to persist until at least Friday.
