Copacabana cyclist lynched after mistaken identity
Cláudio Rafael Landeiro Moreira, a 37-year-old cyclist, was beaten to death in Copacabana, Rio de Janeiro, after being falsely accused of stealing a bicycle. The bicycle actually belonged to his sister.
Investigations and security footage reveal a brutal assault lasting approximately nine minutes, during which the victim was struck multiple times with a wooden club and kicked. The attack involved a group of individuals, including two street security guards, Davi Santos Machado and Jorge Luiz Ricardo Dias, and two app-based delivery drivers, Felipe Eduardo dos Santos Silva and Ailton José da Silva.
Rio de Janeiro courts have maintained the temporary detention of the two delivery drivers and the two security guards. Police are currently working to identify a fifth suspect seen on video participating in the assault. One of the arrested guards, Davi Santos Machado, reportedly changed his testimony, initially denying involvement before admitting to participating in the attack.
