Rio de Janeiro employment shows mixed results in July

Formal employment in parts of Rio de Janeiro showed mixed results in July, according to data from the Ministry of Labor and Employment (Caged). In Northern Rio de Janeiro, job creation slowed by 38.76% compared to June, with 918 new positions recorded.

Macaé led regional growth with 893 new jobs, while Campos dos Goytacazes saw a decline of 124 positions. Other municipalities with positive growth included São João da Barra, São Fidélis, and São Francisco de Itabapoana. From January to July, Macaé recorded a surplus of 3,463 jobs.

In Petrópolis, the month ended with a negative balance of 279 formal jobs. The service sector was the primary driver of this decline, accounting for 222 lost positions. However, the industrial sector in Petrópolis remained a bright spot, adding 36 new jobs during the month. Despite the July dip, Petrópolis maintains a positive cumulative balance of 760 jobs for the first seven months of the year.
