Rio de Janeiro enacts law to prevent and treat public‑sector burnout
The Legislative Assembly of Rio de Janeiro approved Law 11.211/26, creating specific actions to prevent, diagnose and treat burnout among state civil servants. The law mandates multidisciplinary health teams, educational campaigns on causes and symptoms, continuous training for health professionals, and the collection and publication of data on the syndrome. It also calls for integrated policies across health, education, security and occupational medicine. A proposal for mandatory periodic medical and psychological evaluations was vetoed by the interim governor, who cited budgetary concerns.
In the broader Brazilian context, mental‑health disorders account for one in seven work‑related absences. Labor lawyer Priscila Arraes Reino released the guide "Burnout tem lei," explaining employees' rights under the updated Norma Regulamentadora 1, which now requires attention to psychosocial risks. The book offers practical advice on recognizing early signs, navigating labor and social security claims, and understanding how workplace pressures can contribute to burnout.
