Rio de Janeiro expands audiovisual production capacity

Rio de Janeiro is expanding its capacity as a major audiovisual production hub. In the Cosme Velho neighborhood, Largo do Boticário has received the ‘Rio Film Friendly’ seal. This certification, an initiative by RioFilme and the Municipal Secretariat of Culture, identifies locations prepared to meet the professional standards required by film and television crews.

The historic site, recently renovated by the Accor group’s JO&JOE Rio hotel, has a long history of hosting productions, ranging from the James Bond franchise in 1979 to recent works for Netflix and TV Globo. The seal aims to promote spaces that offer agility and professionalism to production teams.

In the Lakes Region, the city of Armação dos Búzios is also preparing for major productions. The local government has confirmed that Netflix will film in the municipality, utilizing public spaces with support from the Búzios Film Commission. While the specific production, schedule, and locations remain undisclosed, municipal authorities are coordinating logistics, security, and traffic management to minimize impact on residents while leveraging the economic opportunities for the local creative industry.
