Rio de Janeiro announces Bangu revitalization and security camera expansion
Rio de Janeiro Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere has announced several municipal initiatives focused on urban revitalization and public security.
The ‘Avança Bangu’ project aims to transform the central area of the Bangu neighborhood in the West Zone. Key components include the creation of the Bangu Linear Park, which will house a cultural center, the restoration of the Cine Matilde, and the construction of a new municipal bus terminal to improve intermodal integration with rail lines. The project will be executed by Rio-Urbe.
In terms of public safety, the city is expanding its ‘CIVITAS Rio’ super-camera network. The expansion will prioritize the North Zone, specifically the Méier and Madureira neighborhoods, to combat vehicle and cell phone thefts. These intelligent cameras utilize artificial intelligence and computer vision to track vehicles by color, make, and model, even when license plates are not visible. The system aims to increase the number of intelligent super-cameras to over 6,500 by the end of the year.
Additionally, the city has commenced construction on a new samba school quadra for Unidos da Tijuca in the Gamboa neighborhood to serve as a cultural and entertainment space.
