Rio de Janeiro expands cultural access through new cineclub and historic cinema tours

Cultural initiatives are expanding in Rio de Janeiro through new film screenings and historical tours. In the North Zone, the Cineclube Cavideo is launching at the Areninha Cultural João Bosco in Vista Alegre. Supported by RioFilme, the project will feature 12 free screenings of Brazilian films, including ‘Marte um’, followed by debates. The program is based on a list of the 50 best Brazilian films of the 21st century. The initiative aims to establish audiovisual points in peripheral areas, providing equipment, training, and programming to ensure long-term local use.

In downtown Rio, the 117-year-old Cine Íris has introduced free guided tours of its historic building. Available Monday through Saturday, the tours allow visitors to explore architectural features such as the old projection room, internal balconies, and the orchestra pit. The project seeks to preserve the building's cultural history and make the space more accessible to younger generations, with future plans to include screenings of silent films and early cinema works.
