Rio de Janeiro faces storm damage and flight cancellations

Strong winds and a cold front have caused damage across Rio de Janeiro, leading to fallen trees and utility poles. In the São Conrado area, a fallen pole obstructed two lanes on the Autoestrada Lagoa-Barra.

The weather conditions resulted in the cancellation of two flights from Santos Dumont Airport. Wind gusts reached speeds of 77.7 km/h in Vidigal, according to the Alerta Rio monitoring system.

In Copacabana, the 3rd Maritime Group assisted stand-up paddle practitioners who were drifted away from the shore by the wind. The Civil Defense has issued a severe weather alert, forecasting continued instability with moderate to heavy rain and potential lightning through Wednesday.
