Rio de Janeiro football fans unite in democratic demonstration

Supporters of four major rival football clubs in Rio de Janeiro—Flamengo, Vasco, Fluminense, and Botafogo—participated in a joint demonstration in support of President Lula. On October 18, fans from these traditionally opposing teams marched together in the city center to advocate for democratic defense, social rights, and public policies for minorities.

The movement was organized without official backing from the clubs themselves. Much of the cooperation is driven by the collective ‘Arquibancada pela Democracia’ (Tribuna por la Democracia), which brings together fans from different teams around shared political goals. Participants noted that while they maintain their individual team identities, they act as a unified movement for democracy.
