Rio de Janeiro gears up for 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup

Rio de Janeiro is intensifying preparations for the 2027 FIFA Women's World Cup, which will begin on 24 June 2028. The city has illuminated landmarks such as the Maracanã Stadium, the Guanabara Palace and the Christ the Redeemer statue in green and yellow, installed digital countdown clocks, and created a commemorative mural on Rua Professor Eurico Rabelo. A Fan Fest at Copacabana offers interactive activities and meetings with former national team captain Marisa Pires, who highlighted the tournament’s potential to inspire young girls.

Sesc Rio de Janeiro is aligning its programs with the event’s social legacy. President Antonio Florencio de Queiroz Junior discussed plans in Miami, emphasizing projects that promote sport, inclusion and youth development. The organization already runs football‑female initiatives in Nogueira (Petrópolis) and is studying new hubs in Barra Mansa, São João de Meriti, Niterói and Madureira. Former player Gilmar Popoca will advise on talent identification and coaching. Sesc RJ aims to expand access to football for women and girls across the state, contributing to a broader legacy for the 2027 Women’s World Cup.
