Rio de Janeiro governor restructures state police command

Interim governor Ricardo Couto signed a decree reorganising the Secretariat of State Police (SEPM) in Rio de Janeiro. The new structure creates eight General Direction bodies, including new subsecretariats for General Police, Administrative Management, Operational Management, Command and Control, Intelligence, Personnel Management, Strategic Programs, and a General Corregedoria. All chief positions in these bodies are now limited to colonels of the Military Police who belong to the State‑Major Officer Corps.

The decree also transfers the “Segurança Presente” program to the newly created Subsecretariat of Strategic Programs and redesigns battalion jurisdictions in the Metropolitan Region and the Lakes Region, assigning specific municipalities to the 45th, 42nd, and 25th battalions. A new 8th Military Police Judicial Police Delegation is created to handle internal investigations. Holders of positions whose titles or duties were altered are automatically exonerated, with vacancies to be filled under the new structure. The changes took effect immediately.
