Rio de Janeiro highways face traffic disruptions due to truck incidents
Multiple road incidents caused traffic disruptions in the state of Rio de Janeiro on Saturday, October 17.
On the RJ-186 highway near São José de Ubá, a large truck from Espírito Santo lost control and collided with a bridge structure. The accident caused a two-kilometer traffic jam in both directions. The driver was treated by SAMU for minor abrasions and remained under medical observation. Municipal authorities used heavy machinery to remove the vehicle and cleaned oil spills from the road to restore safety.
Separately, on the RJ-155 highway (Saturnino Braga) near Angra dos Reis, a truck suffered a mechanical failure in a tunnel at km 16 in the Lídice district. The broken axle blocked a lane, forcing traffic to move through a “stop and go” system where only small vehicles could pass. The Highway Police managed the flow until the vehicle was removed and traffic returned to normal by late afternoon. No injuries were reported in this incident.
