Rio de Janeiro hosts 13th Social Communication Seminar
The 13th Social Communication Seminar, organized by the Archdiocese of São Sebastião do Rio de Janeiro, commenced at the Sumaré Study Center. Approximately 120 communicators are participating in the event, which runs from August 18 to 21.
This edition focuses on the theme “Immersive narratives and public trust: challenges of human communication between transmídia, AI, and disinformation.” During the opening, Cardinal Orani João Tempesta addressed the technological transformations facing the Church, cautioning that “we cannot confuse virality with evangelization,” noting that high engagement does not always equate to true connection.
Professor Arthur Ituassu, director of the Communication Department at PUC-Rio, also delivered a lecture regarding the impact of algorithms on information circulation and the role of communicators in building public trust amidst widespread disinformation.
