Rio de Janeiro hosts award‑nominated Comida de Favela festival and inaugural Chefs Week

The Comida de Favela festival in the Maré favela complex of Rio de Janeiro has been named a finalist for the 2026 World Culinary Awards’ Best Culinary Festival in Latin America. The fourth edition features 16 local food businesses and will run from 1 to 30 October, with public voting closing on 13 August.

Separately, the city has launched Chefs Week, a new gastronomic programme that involves more than 40 restaurants across Rio and Niterói through early August. Highlights include a dinner by Portuguese chef Vitor Sobral that draws on traditional Portuguese tavern cuisine, as well as wine‑pairing events and special menus priced at R$250.

Both initiatives aim to showcase Rio’s culinary diversity, promote tourism and support local entrepreneurs in the food sector.
