Rio de Janeiro inaugurates specialized police station for child protection

The Rio de Janeiro State Government has inaugurated the first Child and Adolescent Victim Police Station (DCAV) in the Baixada Fluminense region. Located in Vilar dos Teles, São João de Meriti, this is the first unit of its kind established outside the state capital.

The station will serve 13 municipalities within the region, focusing on investigating reports of violence against children and adolescents, particularly cases of sexual abuse. The facility is a collaborative effort between the State Government and the City Hall of São João de Meriti.

To provide a more humanized environment, the station includes specialized spaces such as a playroom (brinquedoteca) to reduce intimidation. Staff members are trained in special testimony techniques and qualified listening procedures to prevent victims from undergoing repeated trauma during investigations.
