Rio de Janeiro infrastructure: New highway proposals and maintenance concerns

The municipality of Araruama has proposed a new direct connection between Via Lagos and the RJ-138 highway to the Rio de Janeiro state government. The initiative aims to provide an alternative to the São Vicente road and improve circulation within the region. Additionally, the local government has requested maintenance for several state highways, including RJ-138, RJ-102, RJ-106, and RJ-124A.

In Nova Friburgo, residents and drivers are reporting dangerous conditions on the Serramar Highway (RJ-142). Issues include potholes, lack of shoulders, overgrown vegetation, and the risk of falling trees, which recently caused a 12-hour road closure. The Rio de Janeiro Department of Highways (DER-RJ) stated that conservation services, including pavement repairs and mowing, are planned and depend on favorable weather conditions.
