Rio de Janeiro issued surf warning with waves up to 2.5 m this weekend

The Brazilian Navy warned that the coastal waters of Rio de Janeiro will experience a surf warning (ressaca) from 15:00 Saturday, 4 May, until 18:00 Sunday, 5 May, with waves expected to reach up to 2.5 meters. Authorities advised swimmers, water‑sport participants, fishermen and tourists to stay out of the water, avoid near‑shore promenades and follow the directions of fire‑fighter teams and the Maritime Rescue Corps.

A cold front will bring cloudy skies, light to moderate rain and cooler temperatures, with highs around 26 °C and lows near 15 °C. The alert coincides with a Brazil‑Norway football match scheduled at Copacabana’s Fan Fest on Sunday, drawing large crowds to the beach.
