Rio de Janeiro judge investigated for judicial corruption
The Brazilian Federal Police launched ‘Operation Em Nome do Pai’ to investigate Alexandre Eduardo Scisinio, a judge on the Rio de Janeiro State Court of Justice (TJRJ), for corruption and money laundering.
Investigators suspect Scisinio favored construction and real estate companies by issuing judicial decisions in exchange for benefits provided to his family. These advantages allegedly included real estate, special discounts, indirect payments, and the use of intermediaries or shell companies. While the corruption is believed to have occurred during his time as a first-instance judge in Niterói, the money laundering activities are thought to have continued over a longer period.
Six search and seizure warrants were executed in the Icaraí neighborhood of Niterói, authorized by the Superior Court of Justice (STJ). The operation involves Scisinio’s wife, two children, a sister-in-law, and a lawyer. Authorities have already seized cash, mobile phones, and documents. The investigation was initiated following an administrative procedure by the TJRJ General Internal Affairs Office.
