Rio de Janeiro launches free skill courses for 15‑29 year olds across city communities

The Rio city government’s Oportunidades Cariocas program opened registration for fifteen free courses offered in seven community centres located in Estácio, Cidade de Deus, Madureira, Vigário Geral, Jacarezinho, Vargem Pequena and Campo Grande. Courses include English, public speaking, robotics, artificial intelligence, drone operation, advanced industry, 3D printing, videomaking, photography, social media, DJing, graphic design and more. Materials are provided at no cost and participants receive a certificate upon completion, aimed at improving employability for youth living in favelas.

A related initiative, Rio do Futuro, announced 72 slots for three additional free courses – Hospitality Service, Mobile Programming (React Native) and Introductory Entrepreneurship – to be held at the Casa da Juventude Centro in Gamboa. The courses, run in partnership with Senac RJ, accept applicants aged 15 to 29 and are open for registration until 7 June, with classes scheduled for July. Both programmes are part of municipal efforts to connect young residents with the labour market and support new business ideas.
