Rio de Janeiro launches inclusive sports program and leisure complex

The Rio municipal government approved Law 9.523/2025, signed by Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, establishing a Program of Incentive to the Participation of People with Disabilities in municipal sports activities. The initiative, authored by councilor Paulo Messina, requires adaptations for various disabilities, expands inclusion to autistic and neurodivergent individuals, and seeks to involve families that support people with disabilities.

On July 21, Governor‑in‑acting Ricardo Couto de Castro will inaugurate the Municipal Urban Complex in Cardoso Moreira. The R$2.3 million facility, built in partnership with the state, features an outdoor gym, playground, beach‑volleyball court, athletics/walking track and will house the Municipal Secretariat of Sports and Leisure. The complex is intended to boost local economic and social development and provide modern, accessible recreational space for families.
