Rio de Janeiro jiu-jitsu fighter arrested for attacking neighbors FAST-MOVING

Lucas Portela Fontana Gomes, a 32-year-old jiu-jitsu fighter, has been arrested following a series of violent attacks at a residential building on Avenida Maracanã in the Tijuca neighborhood of Rio de Janeiro.

The incident began in the early hours of Thursday, November 5, when neighbors reported hearing screams coming from Gomes's apartment. According to police investigations, the suspect then invaded neighboring units, threatening to kill all residents in the building. In one instance, he entered an apartment and assaulted a 65-year-old woman, who required hospitalization.

A third resident, a 56-year-old woman, attempted to intervene after hearing cries for help. Security footage from the building's elevator captured a brutal three-minute attack in which Gomes subjected her to punches, kicks, and a chokehold. The footage showed the victim being struck even after falling unconscious.

During the police response, Gomes reportedly resisted arrest and attempted to disarm an officer. Authorities used a taser and fired shots at his legs to subdue him. Following an initial release, the judiciary converted his arrest into preventive detention on Friday, November 6, as he faces charges including attempted feminicide, threats, and trespassing.
