Rio de Janeiro mayor opens General Miranda Filho GET in Inhoaíba

On Sunday, 2 August, Rio de Janeiro’s municipal government inaugurated the General Miranda Filho Ginásio Educacional Tecnológico (GET) in the Inhoaíba neighbourhood of the city’s West Zone. The ceremony was attended by Mayor Eduardo Cavaliere, Education Secretary Hugo Nepomuceno and Casa Civil Secretary Leandro Matieli.

The new GET provides 24 classrooms for first‑ to fifth‑grade students and includes a laboratory, auditorium, cafeteria, library and a covered sports court. Built with climate‑controlled, acoustically insulated materials and full accessibility, the school cost R$ 27.6 million. Its opening raises the number of municipal schools in Rio to 1,560, spanning from early childhood to adult education. The facility is named after General Otávio Rodrigues de Miranda Filho, a distinguished army officer who served in diplomatic posts abroad. The following day, more than 600,000 municipal students returned to classes for the second semester.
