Rio de Janeiro metropolitan governance and infrastructure initiatives

The Instituto Rio Metrópole (IRM) held the second edition of the Encontros Metropolitanos at Palácio Guanabara. The event brought together public managers and specialists to discuss sanitation, climate change impacts, and the strengthening of metropolitan governance within the Rio de Janeiro Metropolitan Region.

During the discussions, participants addressed the goals for water supply and sewage treatment systems. Key stakeholders, including representatives from Cedae, Iguá Saneamento, and Águas do Rio, emphasized the necessity of integrated planning between states, municipalities, and private companies to achieve universal service coverage.

In a separate development regarding regional policy, the professional councils CREA-RJ, CAU/RJ, and the research center Coppe/UFRJ signed a commitment letter addressed to candidates for the state government and the Senate. The document proposes several structural improvements for Rio de Janeiro, including the creation of a state secretariat for infrastructure recovery and specialized structures for flood and landslide prevention.

The letter also outlines essential infrastructure projects, such as the implementation of Metro Line 3, the revitalization of the railway network, and the construction of the BR-101 Ring Road in Campos dos Goytacazes.
