Rio de Janeiro militia suspect arrested in Guaratiba

Maycon Lucas Miranda Lara, known as ‘Boquinha’, was arrested in Guaratiba, West Zone of Rio de Janeiro, by agents from the Organized Criminal Activities Repression Police Station (Draco). The suspect is identified as a high-risk member of a local militia.

Lara is a suspect in the shooting that killed prison officer Sérgio de Oliveira Carrio in March this year in Campo Grande. The incident occurred after Carrio attempted to approach a group of men at a gas station; the suspects fled on a stolen motorcycle and later returned to attempt to recover the vehicle, leading to a confrontation.

In addition to the homicide investigation, Lara faces preventive arrest warrants related to robbery investigations involving vehicles and commercial establishments. The arrest followed intelligence work that located him at his girlfriend's residence.
