Rio de Janeiro municipalities introduce free step classes and revamp sports fields

The municipality of Maricá opened registrations for free step (aerobic) classes at the Arena Flamengo, targeting residents aged 16 and older. The program, part of the Esporte Presente initiative of the city's sports secretariat, aims to improve physical conditioning, balance, cognition and overall quality of life through aerobic exercise and muscle strengthening.

In São João de Meriti, the municipal government laid the foundation stone for the modernization of three community sports fields – Trio de Ouro, Jardim Noya and Vila São João. The project includes refurbished football pitches, a senior‑citizen gym, walking tracks, a playground for children with autism and general communal areas. Local officials highlighted the upgrades as a commitment to health, safety and improved living standards for the city's residents.
