Municipalities implement diverse social and public service initiatives

Various municipal governments in Brazil and Portugal are implementing diverse social, health, and environmental initiatives.

In Brazil, Rio das Ostras has established a Permanent Health Education Commission to improve SUS services. Nova Iguaçu has launched the ‘Mãos que Criam’ project, which provides sewing training to women to generate income while producing clothing for animals awaiting adoption. In Maricá and Dourados, campaigns are underway to raise awareness about the Maria da Penha Law and combat domestic violence. Other regional updates include Águas do Rio providing mobile customer service in several cities, and Sinop announcing expanded airline connections and a sports fishing tournament.

In Portugal, the municipality of Idanha-a-Nova reported a significant increase in animal adoptions, nearly tripling its 2025 figures through dedicated welfare programs and population control measures.
